This saddle is complete with all proper brass hardware on the tree and this would be the perfect addition to a Spanish American War Rough Rider Cavalry collection or to complete your collection of the various Models of McClellan saddles. Comes with correspondence with a previous owner 40 years ago from Randy Steffen possibly identifying this saddle as a Whistle Saddle. US Cavalry Model 1868 Brass Trimmed McClellan Saddle, w/ Original Prudden Phila Maker's Contract Tag
Rare US Cavalry Model 1868 Brass Trimmed McClellan Saddle. This saddle has the Original CW contract maker's brass tag of Prudden of Phila on the rawhide tree. All complete with original leather quarter straps, stirrup straps, the small hooded stirrups and complete with post-war blue cloth girth in Excellent Condition which is not shown. The US Cavalry had the brass trim installed on the cantle and Pommel of the saddle to keep the rawhide from cracking. Beautiful all original US Cavalry M1868 McClellan Saddle and these were used through the 1870s when replaced by the Model 1874s and 1885 saddles. Just the 2nd one I have had in 50 years.
